A
native of Wilkes-Barre, Dr. Steven Vale is a 1984 graduate of
Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. He received
his Medical degree from The Medical College of Pennsylvania
(now Drexel University School of Medicine) in 1988. Dr. Vale
served his medical internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center,
Chester, Pennsylvania and completed his residency in internal
medicine in 1991 at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He
completed his residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Health
Sciences Center in 1994 and a cornea, external disease and refractive
surgery fellowship the following year at the Kresge Eye Institute,
Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Vale is specialty
board certified in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Vale is the region’s most experienced eye surgeon
in the field of laser vision correction of refractive errors.
He began performing PRK and LASIK in August of 1994, under the
supervision of internationally renowned refractive surgery pioneer
Fouad Tayfour, M.D., Director of the Windsor Laser Eye Institute,
Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Tayfour was the first physician
in North America to perform LASIK using the Summit Excimer Laser.
Dr. Vale has performed over 16,000 laser vision surgeries since
1994. He is the author of the first retrospective cohort study
of the use of LASIK to treat myopia, which was presented at
the 1995 meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and
Ophthalmology in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He has also published
numerous articles in the fields of corneal and external disease
and refractive surgery.
