Pre-Operative Exam
Once you decide to have LASIK surgery, you will need to schedule
your pre-op exam. The pre-op exam can be scheduled by calling
our office at 877-520-EYES.
If you wear soft contact lenses, do not wear them
for one week prior to your pre-operative exam. If you wear
toric soft or extended wear lenses, do not wear them for a
three week period prior to your pre-op exam. Hard or gas permeable
contact lens wearers should not wear these lenses for a period
of 1 month for each decade of use prior to your pre-operative
exam. If you have any questions regarding the use of contact
lenses, please call our office for advice.
The pre-op exam is an extensive eye exam that takes approximately
11/2 hours to complete. The purpose of the pre-op exam is
to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK surgery and
gather important information specific to your eyes.
At the conclusion of the pre-op exam, Dr. Vale will determine
if you are a candidate for LASIK surgery. If you are a candidate,
your surgery will be scheduled at your earliest convenience.
Please note that the pre-op exam must be completed a minimum
of 2 days prior to the day of surgery.
Day of Surgery
When you arrive on the day of your LASIK surgery, the staff
will ask you to read, sign and initial the required documents
pertaining to your pending surgery. The staff will also explain
the post-op instructions to you.
You will proceed to the pre-op area where you will be prepped
for surgery. The surgery staff will administer anesthetic
eye drops to numb your eyes prior to surgery. At this time,
Dr. Vale will begin the procedure. The entire procedure usually
takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
After the procedure is completed, the surgical staff will
direct you to the post-op area where you will rest following
your surgery. Once Dr. Vale has examined you, you will return
home to further rest your eyes.
Your Surgery will be performed at our state-of-the-art facility.
We feature two Excimer laser systems, Nidek®, and VISK®
to treat the widest possible range of refractive corrections.
When you arrive, you will be given some oral medication to
relieve any anxiety you may be feeling before the procedure.
You will receive numbing eyedrops before the procedure begins.
An eyelid speculum is usually placed to keep the eye to be
operated on open during the procedure. There is some pressure
around the eye but usually no pain. You can not see or feel
the incision.
